EDS tutors are also available for private customized instruction for reading, math and other subjects.

 Study Skills Minimize

Has your child acquired the most important academic skill - how to learn?  Just as your child must be taught the skills of reading, writing and math, he/she must also be taught study skills.  Most schools spend considerable time teaching the basic academic skills. However, because of the curriculum squeeze, many teachers do not have enough time to teach students how to learn and how to study.

EDS is pleased to offer The EXCEL Program's Study Wise Course® to students entering grades 6 and 7. This 20-hour enrichment course provides students with practical, dynamic and proven strategies needed to build their competence and confidence in a wide array of essential study skills, reading skills and test-taking skills. This course is highly ineractive with fun-filled activities to reinforce the skills and strategies learned. The course includes a 170-page Student Notebook as a permanent record of the course.

Your child will learn to:

  • Increase reading speed and comprehension
  • Utilize study dkills effectively
  • Apply note-taking mthods
  • Reduce test anxiety
  • Become more organized
  • Improve homework efficiency
  • Avoid errors on tests and homework
  • Manage time better
  • and much more!

Results:

The Study-Wise ® Course has been taught in Jacksonville for the past 20 years. In fact, over 3,000 students have successfully competed this course with impressive results! Over 94% of the students have at least doubled their readign speed while maintaining or improving their comprehension.

Course developed by Mary Ellen Whittle, M.Ed., Founder and Director of The EXCEL Program, have been so successful that they are now being taught during the school day in 18 schools in Florida and six other states.
